Shawn Syms has written about culture, politics and sexuality for the past two decades. Shawn's journalism, political analysis, essays, book reviews, poetry and other writings have appeared in a variety of publications including The Globe and Mail, Now, Eye Weekly, Women's Post, Canadian Running, Quill and Quire, Spacing, PRISM international, the Danforth Review, Prairie Fire Review of Books, Lambda Book Report, Rabble, RH (Reproductive Health) RealityCheck, Rites, Xtra, Capital Xtra, Xtra West, xtra.ca, Gay and Lesbian Review, fab, Open Minds Quarterly, Our Times, Fuse, Canadian Male, Pulse Niagara, Lexicon, Gay Community News (Boston), Off Our Backs (Washington), the PWA Coalition Newsline (New York), the award-winning anthology First Person Queer (Arsenal Pulp Press), I Like It Like That (Arsenal Pulp Press) and The Journey Prize Stories 21 (McClelland & Stewart). He's also written and edited for corporate clients ranging from Bruce Mau Design to Ryerson University. Shawn is currently at work on Human Forces, a short-fiction collection.
